Toronto's Emily Steinwall and her band will be performing at the Midnight Run Cafe in Waterloo in celebration of her latest release, an epic double LP inspired equally by Jeff Buckley, Joni Mitchell and John Coltrane, entitled "but, there's beauty in the fall from Grace".
Born and raised in Toronto, Canada into a multi-generational family of musicians, Emily's love for music and art was inevitable. She has worked professionally as a jazz saxophone player, toured the world as a backup singer to a pop artist, and made a living in classic rock tribute bands. Now, with her original music at the forefront, Emily has found a way to express herself through this kaleidoscope of musical experiences and find a sound that is uniquely her own, striving to channel something universal and spiritual in nature.
Emily’s debut album, “Welcome to the Garden”, was released in 2021 and received the SOCAN songwriters prize that year. In the wake of her first album's verdant exploration of wide-eyed love and cosmic belonging, its sequel fully embraces darkness and strives to find the beauty within it. This album offers the listener an opportunity to find peace within the inevitable pain and suffering of human incarnation- not to find peace in spite of the darkness in our lives, but finding peace in sober acknowledgement of it.
Opener Emily Gilbart is an indie-pop artist based in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario. Her music centers around her unique voice, acoustic guitar and raw, introspective lyrics. She has released two 5-track EP's and 5 singles as a solo artist, along with a full-length EP with the band HouseCat in 2024. She has plans to release more music in the fall, after completing her Masters of Music and Psychotherapy at Laurier
